mijjieh vaeriej maanah jïh ibie doekh mijjen maadtoem

your sorries will not heal this land
your twenty years of money poured into your pockets
will not clean our rivers
your promises of wealth mean nothing
when our mountains bleed dry
and the graves of our ancestors are blown to pieces
by miners without souls

the others haven’t read about you and your plans —
you came in the night and declared our home
a new terra nullius to digest
and when we travelled to the capital
to protest the illegitimacy of your quest
we spoke to none but empty seats and
the shadows of ourselves

but we’re the children of the mountain tundra
and we’ll never sell our ancestral lands
